Mayor Skip Henderson is the 70th Mayor of Columbus, Georgia. On behalf of our City Council and over 3,000 City Employees Welcome to Columbus, Georgia a great place to live, do business, work and play.Columbus Consolidated Government is Georgia's first consolidated government, and is proud to serve as a model for other local governments across the nation. The City of Columbus merged with Muscogee County in 1971, creating a streamlined system that provides a very high level of citizen services at a very low per capita cost. Columbus is visitor and business friendly.

City Manager Isaiah Hugley

The city manager is responsible for planning, directing and supervising the activities of all City employees. He develops, implements and administers the policies of the City, manages and controls functions of City departments and performs duties and functions relative to a wide range of City programs and functions. The city manager ensures that City ordinances, resolutions and regulations are executed and enforced. He develops and administers the City Council meeting agenda, promotes continuous improvement in service delivery and identifies and responds to community needs. The city manager promotes public/private partnerships that contribute to sustained economic development and a high quality of life. He focuses on smart growth and a strong financial profile that contribute to sustaining Columbus as the second largest city in Georgia, because we do amazing things.

Columbus Animal Care and Control will feature six (6) pictures and profiles of their longest residents to help them find their forever home. Anyone that chooses to adopt one of the featured animals will be able to adopt at a reduced rate of $50.00.

The “Come Save Me” campaign is an ongoing effort to save the lives of every animal that enters the Columbus Animal Care and Control Shelter, and they need the help of the community to make this happen.

If you are looking for a new pet or have room for another pet in your home, please consider adopting from Columbus Animal Care and Control. These babies deserve a loving family and home so why not let it be yours?

Throughout June 2024, the Columbus Civic Center proudly presents the third annual Juneteenth Jubilee, a month-long celebration of African American heritage and culture. This extended celebration underscores our dedication to commemorating Juneteenth — the emancipation of the last enslaved individuals in the United States on June 19th, 1865, post-Civil War. 

This national holiday has been officially recognized every June 19th since President Biden signed the federal legislation on June 17, 2021. Juneteenth is a time for reflection, joy, and community celebration, highlighting the ongoing journey towards freedom and equality.

On Wednesday, May 22, 2024, Keep Columbus Beautiful Commission is partnering with Columbus Sports Council, who is hosting the NAIA Softball World Series for a community service effort. This project will be led by the softball players participating in the NAIA World Series. Local female softball athletes from various high schools will also be assisting with the cleanup effort.

– City Officials will host a ‘Neighborhood Meeting’ on Thursday, May 16th at 5:30pm at The Food Mill on 2nd Avenue as part of the ‘All Hands on Deck Campaign’ to clean up our neighborhoods and our city. We must get a handle on the uncleanliness of our community, and it will take “all of our community leaders and residents to make this happen”. This is just the start of getting this done through collaboration and coordination.

– The Columbus‐Muscogee County Homeland Security and Emergency Management department will be conducting an emergency response exercise at the Columbus Airport on the morning of Friday May 10, 2024. The exercise will involve a pre‐selected scenario based on an aircraft emergency resulting in the anticipated response by first responders from the Columbus area. First responder agencies involved include the Columbus Airport Public Safety department, Columbus Police Department, Columbus Fire and EMS, Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office, local healthcare facilities, and more.
